We are looking for an enthusiastic officer interested in pursuing a future career in planning.
The Development Management Team falls within the Planning Service and works alongside colleagues in Enforcement and Planning Policy, as well as Building Control, all within the Regeneration and Environment Directorate.
The successful candidate would manage a caseload of planning applications including pre-application advice. You will be required to provide support on enforcement cases, monitor and discharge pre-commencement conditions and deal with general enquiries and appeals.
You should be able to work within tight timescales to deal effectively and efficiently with a caseload of planning applications and prepare written reports and make recommendations for determination under officer delegated powers and to the Planning Board. Where necessary you will prepare and present applications or enforcement cases to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Planning Board.
You will provide written and verbal planning guidance/advice to prospective developers, the general public, other service areas within the authority, elected members, statutory and other organisations – on householder and other small scale development proposals and other related matters.
You will need to have the skills to manage your time to meet national and local planning performance indicators whilst providing an excellent service to the customer, which can be challenging and demanding, and to the third parties who may have an interest in a planning proposal, including Members of the Council.
A degree in Planning, or other related subject, or relevant experience in Planning is necessary.
