\nThe Scottish Partnership in Energy and Engineering Research\n& Innovation (SPEERI) is a partnership of 14 Scottish Universities working\ncollaboratively to maximise impact in energy and engineering research and\ninnovation. SPEERI works strategically with academia, industry and public\nsector/government to further build upon and grow Scotland’s energy and\nengineering research excellence to drive global competitiveness and\nsocio-economic impact. SPEERI has recently formed from the integration of two\nworld-class pan-Scottish partnerships; the Scottish Research Partnership in\nEngineering (SRPe) (www.srpe.ac.uk) and the Energy Technology Partnership\n(ETP) (www.etp-scotland.ac.uk). The SPEERI Engineering Pillar is managed in\naccordance with the SRPe approach, and the SPEERI Energy Pillar in accordance\nwith the ETP approach. Both Energy and Engineering pillars are focused around\nkey themes.

The activities of the SPEERI Engineering Strategy are\nfocused around four strategic themes aligning the research and innovation\nstrengths of the Scottish universities with the key strategic opportunities\nfor socio-economic impact and growth: Advanced Manufacturing; Robotics and Autonomous\nSystems; Infrastructure and Environment; Engineering for Health & Care.

Based at the state-of-the-art Technology & Innovation\nCentre in Glasgow, the SPEERI Deputy Director of Engineering will be a high\ncalibre versatile professional with a wide range of skills who can manage all\naspects of SPEERI strategic, operational and project delivery. You will work\nclosely with the SPEERI Executive Director and manage the day-to-day\noperational and project delivery of the wider SPEERI team. Due to the\nintegrated nature of the partnership, you will work closely with the SPEERI\nDeputy Director (Energy) to identify areas of synergy between the Engineering\nand Energy Strategies and develop joint initiatives. You will collaborate with\na wide range of internal and external stakeholders from across a number of\norganisations spanning academia, industry and public sector, including at\nsenior/executive level.

Your main activities and responsibilities will be across\nthe full range of engineering focused SPEERI activities, including management\nand oversight of partnership-wide SPEERI funded initiatives and programmes;\ndesign, development and delivery of strategic investment cases, strategic\ninitiatives/programmes, collaborative proposals and workshops; identifying and\ndeveloping new collaborations with academia, industry and public sector,\nhorizon scanning, identification and monitoring of collaborative funding opportunities;\norganisation and delivery of conferences, events and workshops; marketing and\ncommunications; management and coordination of early career researcher skills\ndevelopment/training initiatives; budget management and financial reporting;\nproject delivery and progress tracking; development of databases, and\nday-to-day operational management and supervision of the SPEERI executive\noffice team.

To be considered for the role you must be educated to a\nminimum of degree level in a relevant discipline, or with equivalent relevant\nexperience within the higher education, public or industry sectors. You will\nhave extensive experience across stakeholder management, cross-sectoral\ncollaborative strategic proposal / investment case development and workshop\ndelivery, marketing and communications, conference and events management,\nstrategic initiative and collaborative project development and delivery, project\nmanagement and project performance monitoring, financial management and\ngeneral operational delivery management and staff supervision, ideally within\nan industry facing higher education collaborative research environment.\n

In addition to having excellent interpersonal,\norganisational & planning, management, communication and IT skills, you\nmust have the versatility and drive to embrace new challenges. Many aspects of\ndelivery will be non-prescriptive and you must be able to operate proactively\nwith a high degree of flexibility, and with a high level of motivation and\npersonal initiative.\n
