Principal Electrical Engineer (Defence) - Contract (Ongoing)
£65-75 per hour (DOE) - Inside IR35
Helensburgh - Hybrid
Our client is an international engineering consultancy with excellent opportunities in the Defence industry for a Principal Electrical Engineer on a contract basis.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, supporting operations and future programs at client sites.
Responsibilities
1. Specify, produce, and assess design packages.
2. Define reliability and operational constraints.
3. Assess work control procedures for maintenance.
4. Evaluate design, material state, and ageing mechanisms.
5. Promote safety and security culture.
6. Ensure contract outputs meet safety requirements.
Key Experience
1. Broad experience, ideally with HV/MV and LV distribution, protection systems, C&I systems, electrical machines (synchronous motors, frequency changers, diesel alternators).
2. Knowledge of safety and security protocols.
3. Proficiency in assessing conditions and ageing mechanisms.
4. Effective communicator with clients and teams.
5. Ability to contribute to projects on time and within budget.
6. Experience in the nuclear industry or other high hazard environments (not essential).
7. Strong understanding of British and international design standards.
8. Proven track record of making evidence-based decisions.
Key Qualifications
1. HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering.
2. Design Intent for Electrical Infrastructure in the nuclear or similar industry.
