Job Title: Support Worker
Responsible to: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer and the employer’s representative
Hours: 8 hours per week in the school holidays
Work Pattern: Variable working shifts
Hourly Rate of Pay: £12.50
Based at: Employers own home in Great Barton, Bury St Edmunds.
Job Purpose
The purpose of the job is to support and be a friendly companion to a young boy with global developmental delay and learning disabilities. The child lives at home with his family. The purpose is to build a trusting, professional relationship with the child and to support him with all his personal care and safety needs. The child enjoys adult company and likes to read stories and play together. He needs constant supervision for safety, and assistance with his mobility as he needs a hand hold for walking and is at risk of falling.
Main duties
To support with:
- Personal care e.g. nappies, feeding, cleaning.
- Constant supervision is required at all times.
- Support with all safety aspects.
- To be a social friendly companion to the child
- To support with his mobility as he needs a hand hold for walking and support to help him stand with a table in front of him
- To support with sensory play and reading books
- You will be required to keep him entertained in the home.
- To build a supportive relationship and take part in activities which the child enjoys.
- To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Personal Specification
· Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
· Experience with caring for children is essential
· Have a good sense of humour and enjoy a friendly joke.
· You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
· Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
· You should have knowledge and understanding of risks and confidentiality.
· Be patient, supportive, honest, reliable and trustworthy.

This post is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check at the Employers request prior to commencing employment. This is confidential and at no cost to yourself. The post carries a 6-month probationary period.
