Job summary
The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust provides acute care across the range of medical specialties in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care, and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital.
Successful applicants will support the Neurology specialty team in the management of their in-patient & outpatient workload and will participate in the Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites.
The team consists of Consultants in Spinal Injuries, Consultant Neurologists, Consultant Neurophysiologists, and a Consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation. You will assist in delivering holistic patient-focused care by multi-disciplinary and multi-specialty collaboration.
The Neurosciences Unit provides a sub-regional Neurological Service to parts of West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, and South Yorkshire.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will include:
1. Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
2. Referral of patients to other specialties as appropriate.
3. Out-patient activities - clinics.
4. Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
5. Involvement in relevant administration duties.
6. Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate.
7. Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
* Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, by time of application in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
* Have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities, for the round of application, via one of the following methods:
* Current employment in a programme which leads to successful completion of Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training by the advertised post start date, via one of these approved routes:
* UK Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training.
* UK ACCS (Internal Medicine).
* UK Broad Based Training (medicine route).
* A standalone UK IMY3 programme (following completion of UK core medical training/ACCS (acute medicine)).
* JRCPTB internationally level 3 accredited equivalent Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training programme.
* Successful completion of one of the programmes listed above, evidenced by ARCP.
* Completion of UK ST3 in General Internal Medicine and satisfactory progress for any subsequent GIM training, by the advertised post start date, evidenced by ARCP.
* Evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities at time of application. Acceptable evidence is only permitted via the Alternative Certificate to Enter Group 1 Higher Physician Specialty Training.
* Trainees in Intensive Care Medicine who are applying with the intention to dual train, will be eligible if they can demonstrate all of the following: completion of UK Core Medical Training or ACCS Acute Medicine; successful completion of ST3 in ICM by the advertised post start date; making satisfactory progress with their ICM training, evidenced by ARCP.
* Be able to provide complete details of their employment history.
* Have evidence that their career progression is consistent with their personal circumstances.
* Have evidence that their present level of achievement and performance is commensurate with the totality of their period of training.
* Have sufficient experience working in medical specialties (not including foundation level experience) by the advertised post start date.

Qualifications
Essential
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Either of the following:
* MRCP(UK) Part 1 at time of application and MRCP(UK) full diploma by the published deadline.
* Eligibility for the specialist register in general internal medicine by time of application.
* Completion of Irish Basic Specialty Training in medicine and the MRCPI full diploma by time of application.
* ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS certification.
Desirable
* Progress towards or attainment of Royal College Exams.
* Higher qualification e.g. MFARM, MRCP, MRCPG, MRCS, FRCA or equivalent.
