Main duties of the job
You will undertake the following duties under the supervision of a registered practitioner:
Communication:
1. Establish and maintain good relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues through effective verbal and non-verbal communication, demonstrating empathy and ability to manage conflict or potentially challenging situations.
2. Help patients and visitors orientate themselves to their surroundings when in the outpatient department, tailored to their specific needs.
3. Answer telephone calls appropriately and efficiently, accurately relaying messages.
4. Contact patients and visitors and instruct them on attending the department following COVID-19 guidance.
5. Have a good understanding of IT systems.
6. Undertake agreed aspects of clerical work relating to patients and the outpatient department including gathering and filing notes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
You will undertake the following duties under the supervision of a registered practitioner:
Clinical:
1. Establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere and environment, for patients, visitors and staff alike.
2. Be aware of which patients are on hospital transport, co-ordinate their OPA & return transport home as required. Ensure they have necessary refreshments and assistance to toilet if required.
3. Chaperone patients when required.
4. Assist colleagues in the moving/handling of patients as appropriate.
5. Report all occurrences promptly which require the attention of a trained nurse.
6. Undertake action required in emergencies as directed by a trained nurse.
7. When required, assist nursing team in transfer of patient or accompany a patient to another department within the hospital or to another hospital.
8. Prepare patients and their environment for clinical procedures.
9. Promote anti-discriminatory practice, ensure patient confidentiality, privacy and dignity at all times.
10. Support the patients rights, choice and personal beliefs.

* Numeracy / literacy skills - Level 2 or Grade C at GCSE
* Evidence of relevant training / courses (CPD)
