Job summary The Endoscopy Service at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, talented, passionate and forward thinking Nurse Endoscopist to join our team as its Lead. We have a busy and growing JAG accredited department which continues to expand following the planned opening of a new state of the art unit at Cumberland Infirmary this Spring. As our Lead Nurse Endoscopist, you will be already experienced in working in endoscopy services and additionally have a sound clinical management background. You will have a minimum of 3 years post JAG certification experience in upper and/or lower endoscopy, and a passion to continually grow and develop new endoscopist practitioners. As well as having a non-medical prescribing qualification you will also have a training the trainers qualification. You will be an enthusiastic and inspirational leader who will manage the nurse endoscopist workforce and operational components of the service across the two sites (Cumberland Infirmary & West Cumberland Hospital), supported by the Clinical Lead, Matron & General Manager for endoscopy. You will be a skilled communicator with a passion for patient care, education and staff development. You will place a high priority on maintaining a supportive and caring environment for patients and staff and on developing the highest standards of evidence based practice and achieving key quality metrics. Main duties of the job You will be an expert practitioner in all aspects of upper and/or lower GI Endoscopy working within your scope of practice with a well-developed, advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability, managing all aspects of the patient pathway including prescribing appropriately. Maintain your own clinical expertise by attending relevant training courses, updates and study leave. Provide professional, clinical and operational leadership with a highly visible and authoritative presence, ensuring the delivery of excellence in endoscopy, audit, research and training. Collaborate with the Clinical Endoscopy Lead and other Heads of Specialty and external stakeholders to lead on practice and research. Perform 5 core endoscopy lists per week and help to coordinate backfilling of endoscopy lists on both sites by the team of nurse endoscopists. Liaise and participate in training lists and final assessments of both nursing and medical/surgical trainees to attain JAG accreditation. Directly lead and line, manage the team of nurse endoscopists working across both sites including staff development and performance, sickness, special leave and annual leave. Conduct regular 1:1s, annual performance reviews and ensure that all team members have a relevant development plan that meets the service and organisation as well as individual objectives.
