Graduate Civil Engineering Technician
The Role
The purpose of this role is to offer technical support to our projects within the region.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide technical support during the construction and project close-out phases
2. Support the design, planning and execution of construction projects within the region
3. Prepare technical drawings, designs and plans using AutoCAD
4. Assist in the preparation of design calculations and specifications in line with project requirements
5. Undertake setting out of construction works to ensure accuracy and adherence to project plans
6. Monitor project progress and identify potential issues, providing timely resolutions where required
7. Address any design issues identified during the construction phase
8. Supervise the work of contractors to ensure compliance with specifications and plan any remedial work where required
9. Ensure current revisions of drawings are being used on site
10. Conduct site surveys and inspections to verify compliance with design specifications
Health, Safety & Environmental
1. Ensure construction activities adhere to UK Building Regulations, environmental standards and health and safety requirements
2. Carry out risk assessments
3. Liaise with regulatory authorities to obtain relevant permits and ensure project compliance
4. Comply with company procedures and legal obligations
Technical Support
1. Support Civil Engineers in preparing project documentation, including reports, schedules and cost estimates
2. Interpret technical drawings and provide guidance to site teams to ensure clarity and accuracy
Key Measures and Targets
1. Accurate and timely setting out of the works
2. Timely handover of works and quality records without outstanding defects
3. Production of accurate records, drawing registers and weekly diaries
Key Relationships
Site Agents, Site Engineers and Foreman, Wider site workforce, Customer technical representatives
About You
Essential
1. Sound knowledge and understanding of construction methods and processes and civil engineering principles
2. Experience in using AutoCAD and MS Office
3. Attention to detail with a proactive approach to identify and resolve issues
4. Degree/HNC qualified, or equivalent, in civil engineering
5. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to liaise effectively with both clients and staff
Desirable
1. Temporary-works co-ordination
2. CSCS card
3. Cable avoidance training
4. First aid training
5. Confined space training
