Job description: We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic technician who will be based in the Kett/AIVRT group in the School of Pharmacy, Queen's University Belfast under the supervision of Dr Vicky Kett on the AIVRT project (www.aivhrthub.org) in conjunction with Dr Beckie Ingram. The successful applicant will work in partnership with members of the Kett/AIVRT laboratories to offer an effective and efficient technical service for various research studies in the area of immune response to immunology and bacterial infection.
Due to the nature of the projects, flexibility of working hours will be required. The candidate should be prepared to start work by no later than January 6th 2025 unless agreed otherwise.
About the person: The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
* Hold academic and/or vocational qualifications e.g. 2 A Levels, NVQ level 3, ONC/OND, City & Guilds level 3 or equivalents in a relevant subject i.e. biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry or equivalent disciplines.
* Have 2 years relevant laboratory experience to include:
* molecular biology/microbiology/biochemistry research including general experience in a wide range of laboratory methods, but with a special expertise in bacterial protein expression and purification, microscopy techniques.
* Real time PCR, ELISA, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry.
* Experience in tissue culture, in particular culturing eukaryotic cells. Experience in DNA, RNA, plasmid purification, DNA sequencing, bioinformatics.

This post is available for 20 months or until 31 August 2026, whichever is soonest. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
