Background: Internal Audit is an independent, objective assurance function that is critical to meeting our business ambitions whilst also protecting the interests of our customers by ensuring that the internal control, risk and governance frameworks are always fit for purpose. Role description: In this role, you will be driving the delivery of meaningful improvements across the Insurance entity through the work performed by the audit teams and engaging with stakeholders to deliver the results in an impactful manner. The role will include the SMF responsibilities for PAC and its associated firms. The role involves coordination with other Audit SLT members, in particular the Head of Group Finance and Risk for those activities that involve finance, risk or actuarial. As a member of the Internal Audit leadership team you will be involved in running the function and helping the function achieve its vision of trusted partner, protecting what matters. This will be done through leading actions, workstream changes and continuous improvement activity across the function. This role is critical in the management of Audit Risk across your portfolio, namely the following risks: The risk that we fail to audit the right things - Managed through risk assessment and annual risk based planning The risk that we fail to identify issues Managed through strong execution of risk based audits and quality controls The risk that management to not respond adequately to our observations - managed through effective follow up testing of issues The risk that we are not trusted or respected by management - manged through the quality of our work and through the fit and proper requirements and standards. Key responsibilities: You will be responsible for delivering audit assurance over the M&G insurance activities including planning, performance and reporting of risk-based assurance activity across the life business including PAC and the associated firms. Risk assessment and risk-based planning Leading meetings with the senior stakeholders, including Non-Executive Directors and regulators, where required, to position the risk-based audit planning process, confirm the scope of audit reviews, and confirm the planning process. Performing risk assessments across the Wealth business in order to inform the annual planning process. Preparing annual audit plans for the wealth business, including preparing and presenting the PAC Audit Committee. Periodically reassessing the audit prioritisation based on emerging risks within the business Working with the audit teams to ensure that individual audit plans are focussed on the key risks and controls within the scope of the audit and that these are clearly captured within the Terms of Reference document that is shared with Management. Audit performance Overseeing the delivery of a portfolio of audits to ensure that the audit test strategies deployed meet the audit objectives and are performed in an appropriate manner. Oversee the use of resource to ensure that there is coordination of engagements across the communities and effective use of resources across the function. Take a risk-based approach to planning and performance of audits, considering ways to innovate how we obtain assurance through the use of technology and analytics. Reviewing audit files and working papers supporting red or amber issues and/or prepared by the Assignment Manager to ensure that they are of a consistently high standard. As required, completing testing, and documenting working papers in line with IA methodology standards and ensuring these are captured on Teamate Understand the conflicts of interest risk that may arise within internal audit and ensure that these are managed and mitigated appropriately. Audit reporting Overseeing a portfolio of audits led by Audit Managers to ensure that the results of audit testing and any observations (including insights) are discussed with management and appropriately escalated to and agreed with senior stakeholders. Overseeing a portfolio of audits led by Audit Managers to ensure that the final reports capture the results of the audit and are rated in an objective and proportionate way. Help develop themes and insights to support the annual control environment assessment and deliver impactful reporting of audit opinions. Deliver insights to management to support them in helping to improve the control environment and culture Stakeholder management Taking responsibility for the relationship with the specified ExCom member and allocating responsibility for relationships between their reports and Internal Audit to ensure that a constructive dialogue is maintained, and Internal Audit remain up to date with all activities. Participating in meetings with Senior Management, NEDs and Regulators (FCA and PRA) to present the activities of the Internal Audit function Maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders through acting with integrity, professionalism, and respect at all times to ensure that the Internal Audit function is seen in the correct light Team management Developing a strong an engaged high performing team, encouraging a growth mindset. Empowering the team to make risk-based decisions to inform the plan and audit scopes. Overseeing the development of Audit team members in all aspects of the audit role; providing advice, training and mentoring in a constructive and productive manner. Proactively identify, promote, or sponsor opportunities to help develop the wider Internal Audit function and/or the community for which you are responsible. Qualifications & Competencies: Market knowledge/ business strategy and model Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Actuary, Accountant or Audit) with significant relevant post qualification experience. Experience of Internal Audit/Audit monitoring functions and expert knowledge of industry best practice. Experience managing teams of professionals / experts. Experience in dealing with senior management and regulators in a similar environment to PAC. Knowledge of PAC (and associated firm) products markets and competitors. Technical Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of: Risk management; Governance and Control requirements; and Regulatory expectations, practices and trends. Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the firm operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the SMF 5 role. An awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the firm. Experience of liaising with the regulators and operating at Board and Committee Level. Experience of a broad range of audit frameworks covering financial and non-financial risk Leadership/ influencing skills Understands how to navigate the organisation and can persuade at all levels.
