Role Summary: As the Team Lead for a smaller team within the Scientific Department, you will ensure that the team’s operations are smooth, efficient, and aligned with organisational objectives. You will work closely with the Departmental Manager to maintain high standards of operation and productivity while fostering staff development and ensuring projects meet both scientific and commercial goals. You will also support the growth of your team members through mentorship, skill development, and collaboration across departments. Objectives: Team Operations: Ensure the team runs smoothly with high productivity to meet departmental goals. Project Management: Effectively allocate and oversee projects to challenge team members and help them grow professionally, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables. Staff Development: Focus on developing your team’s skills and capabilities, expanding beyond just project work to include leadership, technical expertise, and business awareness. Commercial Awareness: Strengthen the team’s understanding of the commercial aspects of projects, driving initiatives that contribute to financial success. Collaboration & Communication: Cultivate a collaborative environment within the team and ensure strong communication across departments, especially with the Business Development team and Technical Services Director. Quality Assurance: Ensure all team projects adhere to the highest quality standards and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities: Lead, manage, and support a smaller team within the department, ensuring professional development through guidance and mentorship. Oversee the distribution and progress of team projects, ensuring both scientific quality and commercial feasibility. Work alongside the Departmental Manager and collaborate with the Business Development team and Technical Services Director to align team efforts with organisational objectives. Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training and development opportunities for team members. Monitor team performance and implement improvements when necessary. Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements for all team activities. Support the recruitment of new team members in partnership with HR and the Departmental Manager, ensuring alignment with department goals. Act as a point of contact for team concerns, including performance management and HR-related issues. Foster an environment of continuous improvement by monitoring processes and suggesting operational enhancements. Occasionally provide out-of-hours remote support to team members working on wellsite or overseas assignments. Qualifications & Skills: Proven experience in a leadership role, ideally within a scientific or technical environment. Strong project management skills with experience handling multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members. Solid understanding of commercial and financial aspects of projects. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail. Relevant scientific or technical qualifications (degree or equivalent experience).
