This is a permanent, full-time post of 37 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Friday. There is no requirement for evening or weekend work for this post.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, highly motivated HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist to join the West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre plays a key role in the provision of clinical virology services for NHSGGC and the West of Scotland. It also provides numerous national specialist and diagnostic services. The WoSSVC actively participates in internal and external training and education, collaborative research and development, and has a close working relationship with Public Health Scotland (PHS).
The post holder will be a key member of the team responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive range of highly specialised molecular techniques for use within the West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre. They will also contribute to the routine clinical rota on a regular basis, clinical audit and will contribute to the training of medical, scientific and technical staff. Experience of NGS based methods in virology (in particular those based on nanopore technology) is essential.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic with proven knowledge and skills across Clinical Virology. This demanding role will involve managing multiple tasks, problem-solving, and providing clinical advice to a wide range of users across Scotland. The candidate will be expected to have excellent verbal and written communication skills involving tact and diplomacy to engage with healthcare scientists and stakeholders at a national and international level. The post holder will be supported to develop highly specialised clinical expertise to prepare them for consultant level posts.
Applicants Require
* Upper second or first class Honours degree in relevant science e.g. Medical Microbiology
* Masters Degree (MSc) in a relevant field or equivalent qualification
* Completion of the nationally accredited STP scientist training scheme (3 years) or equivalent
* Health and Care Professions Council Registration as a Clinical Scientist
