Job Title: Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)
Location: Ilford, Essex
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SENCO to join our team at a welcoming, inclusive primary school situated near Seven Kings station in Ilford, Essex. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within our school. This is a full-time position with an anticipated start date in January.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school’s special educational needs policy.
2. Coordinate provision for pupils with SEND by working closely with teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals.
3. Liaise with parents and guardians of pupils with SEND, ensuring they are involved in decisions about their child's education.
4. Lead and manage a team of teachers and support staff in the planning and delivery of high-quality, inclusive teaching practices.
5. Maintain accurate records of pupils' progress and needs, using this data to inform effective strategies and interventions.
6. Advocate for the needs of SEND pupils, ensuring that their learning experiences are equitable and impactful.
7. Monitor and evaluate the efficacy of special educational needs provision through regular reviews and assessments.
8. Organize and oversee multidisciplinary meetings, including annual reviews, to review pupils' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
9. Develop and deliver continuous professional development (CPD) for staff on SEND-related issues.
10. Manage special educational needs resources effectively within budgetary constraints.
11. Keep abreast of current legislation, policies, and best practices in SEND provision and ensure compliance within the school setting.
Qualifications:
1. Proven experience working as a SENCO or in a similar capacity within a primary school setting.
2. Thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and experience with EHCP processes.
3. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
4. A hands-on, empathetic approach to working with children and a commitment to inclusive education.
5. The ability to forge positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies.
6. Strong organizational and administrative skills.
