You will be working collaboratively with our Multidisciplinary Diabetes Footcare and Community Podiatry teams. The role will encompass community team development, staff recruitment, offering clinical leadership whilst providing a high level of clinical care in the specialist area of wound care and tissue viability.
We are looking for an experienced Podiatrist with a passion for clinical excellence and with evidence of previous positive outcomes, to work with patients under the care of the Community Podiatry Team. The successful candidate will need to be an autonomous practitioner, with experience of working with complex foot care needs as well as diabetes experience.
You should be an effective communicator with the drive and enthusiasm to work with your team members to expand their roles. You should be able to negotiate and collaborate effectively with senior clinicians and medical colleagues and facilitate the delivery of excellent care.
You should be able to manage a caseload, using evidence based/ patient centred principles to assess, plan and deliver individualised treatment programmes to highly complex patients and delegate responsibility as appropriate within the team and to wider Community services. You will also need to be able to manage information to inform service development and to demonstrate achievement of target.
Main duties of the job
Provide specialist podiatric care to patients with active foot conditions related to wounds and tissue viability in clinic and in their homes.
Assess and formulate treatment plans.
Review patient care plans.
Manage referrals effectively through triage and provide clinical advice to other health care professionals.
Work with Band 5 and 6 to develop competencies and confidence.
Provide support to students.
Conduct ABPIs.
Work closely with consultants from vascular, orthopaedics and diabetes, MDFT, nurses and GPs.
Conduct nail surgery as per team rota.
Empower patients and support staff.
Liaise with Team leads and county wide TV leads.
Participate in a consultant led clinics within the acute alongside the vascular team.

Job responsibilities
Provide expert podiatry input as part of the Community Podiatry Team.
Work closely with Consultants, The Multidisciplinary Diabetes Footcare Team, specialist Nurses and General practitioners to manage patients with active foot conditions.
Provide specialist podiatric care for patients with active foot conditions related to wounds and tissue viability.
Assess, and formulate specialist treatment plans based on patients individual needs, having to complete complex clinical analysis which may require consideration of several components which may be conflicting. The emphasis of this process will be on the relevant area of expert specialty.
Directly refer for appropriate diagnostic investigations.
Liaise with patients, their carers and others with a view to education, empowerment and improvement of clinical outcomes.
Manage referrals into the Community Podiatry Team and ensure all referrals are appropriately triaged within 2 working days and allocated appropriate appointments if necessary.
Assess, diagnose and formulate specialist treatment plans based on patients individual needs with great emphasis on the at risk foot i.e. those suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Peripheral Neuropathy.
Act as a source of expert advice, supervision and education for fellow podiatrists and other healthcare professionals, including General Medical Practitioners.
Liaise with the Team Leader and others podiatry Tissue viability leads to ensure a high-quality seamless patient delivery service in Worcestershire.
Deputise in the absence of the Team Leader.
Utilise the full scope of clinical practice including wound management, total and partial nail ablations, carried out under local anaesthetic.
Be actively involved in, and with a commitment to, a clinical philosophy of care that puts an emphasis on patient empowerment and self-care, supported by health education activities.
Participate actively in peer review and reflective practice sessions.

* A degree or equivalent qualification in Podiatry
* A certificate in administration of local anaesthetics
* Masters level courses for relevant speciality
* State Registration with the Health Professions Council

Experience
Essential
* 5 years experience showing good evidence of post qualification experience treating high risk patients within podiatry or part of a MDT
* Experience of carrying out expert diabetic assessment and examination
* Experience of carrying out biomechanical assessments and examinations, ability to prescribe, cast and manufacture orthotics
Desirable
* Post graduate training to masters level in relevant speciality
Knowledge
Essential
* Expert clinical knowledge of the management of a variety of pathologies including diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, renal and rheumatological conditions. This will include the skilled use of equipment for specialist vascular and neurological assessment and an up-to-date knowledge of wound care.
