Rail Protection Officer (RPO)
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Lower South Island KiwiRail contract team for an experienced Rail Protection Officer.
We are looking for someone who is positive, communicates well, is motivated and is looking for their next step. You will be working around some of the most beautiful landscapes that New Zealand has to offer! If you are someone that loves to travel and enjoys away work exploring the South Island, then this is the role for you!
The primary purpose of this role is to provide rail protection for our crews working within the Kiwi Network. The successful applicant will be willing to pitch in as required to assist with weed spraying and ground maintenance activities to help out the crews. The role tasks include but are not limited to:
* Hi-Railing, site protecting and PRO work
* Contribute to operational planning with regards to rail protection requirements
* Weed spraying, scrub cutting, small tree felling jobs
* Managing vegetation along the rail corridor to maintain level crossing view lines and rail infrastructure
* Supervision of specialist vegetation sub-contractors working in the network
* Oversee safety practices and ensuring safety procedures are upheld
* Reporting any problems found on the job to the Project Manager regarding crew, equipment, and any operational/safety improvements
* Operate and maintain a range of mobile plant, equipment and company vehicles
* Obtain good communication with the team

Ideally, you will have:
* High regard for safety and the environment
* Good organisational skills and a team player
* Minimum 3 plus years' field experience providing rail protection in the KiwiRail network
* Availability for stay away work and occasional weekend work
* Full Class 2/RTWD Driver's License an advantage
* Requirement for KiwiRail 'Licenses to Operate': RPO Blocking, RPO Track Warrant, PRO Yards and RPO Hi-Rail essential
* Relevant experience in the delivery of vegetation management services is an advantage
* First Aid Certificate
* Strong communication skills and a high proficiency in English
* A high level of physical fitness and ability to handle a demanding role

* To be eligible for this position you must currently be living in NZ and have a legal right to work in this country (i.e., NZ Citizenship, be a permanent resident, or hold full working rights).
