Audit Director - North East England

The company wishes to recruit an ambitious individual who wishes to progress their external audit career and who is keen to become involved in the overall management and strategic direction of the audit team. Whilst maintaining involvement with a portfolio of clients, overseeing the effective and efficient execution of statutory audits in both the profit and non-profit sectors.
The role:
1. Managing a portfolio of clients and delivering a high-quality audit and assurance service.
2. Planning staffing and resources for assignments, managing audits from planning to completion within agreed budgets and timescales.

4. We envisage the successful candidate will become an integral part of our audit department, playing a key role in managing the operational and strategic direction of the team together with a portfolio of their own audit clients.
Department Activities:
1. Assist in the smooth day-to-day management of the audit department, including scheduling client work, formulating audit teams, and line managing staff.
2. Assist partners in controlling audit costs and billing.
3. Develop and maintain client relationships and identify new business development opportunities.
4. Coach and develop team members to achieve technical competencies and efficient performance.
5. Provide technical expertise, advice, and leadership to the audit team and clients.
6. Assist the audit partners in ensuring standards and procedures are maintained by the whole team.
Engagement Specific Activities:
1. Manage a portfolio of audit engagements.
2. Manage the engagements profitably by leading the team to perform efficiently.
3. Liase with the client to arrange planning and completion meetings.
4. Oversee the preparation of a budget during the planning stage in line with the agreed audit fee.
5. Monitor the assurance team's progress against the plan and alter as required.
6. Liase with the engagement partner about audit progress and arrange meetings with the assurance team and clients as required.
7. Coach and develop team members by sharing knowledge and helping team members attain experiences that cultivate technical competencies.
8. Develop team members by encouraging them to think for themselves and to take responsibility for their contributions to the assurance team.
9. Conduct timely performance reviews and provide performance feedback/on-the-job training.
10. Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and networks.
11. Review work completed by the senior and assistant ahead of the RI review. Ensure that review points are actioned in a timely manner.
The Person:
You will be an ambitious candidate who has a relevant professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, ICAS, CGMA) and will have significant experience managing audits from planning to completion and who aspires to further their career towards becoming an RI.
Other skills and experience required:
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to build strong and trusted relationships with a range of clients and your own team.
* Strong organisational skills to prioritise high volumes of work and multiple stakeholders.
* The ability to manage complex projects and find solutions to problems at an early stage to meet agreed deadlines.
* The ability to identify and provide recommendations for improvements to client's systems and internal controls.
* In-depth experience of using Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and audit software.
