Teaching Assistant
32.5 hours per week
This is a great opportunity to join our experienced, dedicated team at Powerstock CE VA School.
This is primarily a classroom-based role. The postholder will work as a member of the school team, workingwith teachers, teaching assistants and pupils to make a major impact on teaching and learning. The successful candidate will have high expectations of all pupils and take on our church school visionand values. They will be committed to raising pupils’ educational achievement and have experience in a primary school setting and with pupils with additional learning needs.The primary purpose of the Teaching Assistant aspect of the role is to complement theprofessional work of qualified teachers by supporting learning activities, which could include 1:1 or small group work.
Main responsibilities and duties:
1. To undertake the following, subject to the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher in accordance with arrangements made by the Headteacher of the school:
2. Work within a framework set by the teacher to plan their role in lessons including how they will provide feedback to pupils and colleagues on pupils’ learning and behaviour.
3. To often work with a named child, as directed by the class teacher and/or SENCo, to support subjects and learning across the whole curriculum;
4. To establish a supportive, caring and secure relationship with the pupils promoting respect, self- esteem and a positive, inclusive whole school ethos;
5. To develop knowledge and understanding of the specific academic, physical and emotional/behavioural/medical needs of the child and respond to them effectively;
6. To assist the class teacher/SENCo with the planning, development and delivery of suitable programmes of work for the pupil/s;
7. To support class teachers to design, create and produce learning activities, materials and resources to support aspects of the curriculum or particular learning outcomes, and to assist and support children in using them;
8. To contribute to monitoring and recording pupil progress, maintaining records and providing relevant feedback to teachers;
9. As directed by the class teacher or SENCo, to liaise with outside agencies, where appropriate, in respect of the child;
10. To assist with general school duties which may include: setting up classrooms, preparing resources and displays, tidying and clearing away; supervision of children during playtimes/lunchtimes.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Keeping Children Safe in Education
The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
