The MTC Operations team are looking for a skilled Senior Research Engineer to join their team in Coventry and/or Liverpool.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Technical delivery of digital manufacturing technology projects, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
2. Technical leadership of deliverables and projects around Data Science and AI, Digital Manufacturing Systems, Connectivity, Visualisation and Cyber Security.
3. Adopt industry best practices and technologies to architect IT and OT solutions that appropriately integrate into the overall technology footprint.
4. Lead customer and internal partner liaison activities.
5. Lead horizon scanning of technologies and new approaches to solve industrial problems across a range of industrial sectors.
6. Generation of new project ideas in alignment with the department's strategy.
7. Coaching and mentoring to colleagues as required, is an essential part of your role to support the development of leadership and management capability across the business.
Person Specification
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
1. Degree calibre engineer, technologist, computer scientist or mathematician.
2. Proven experience in designing and deploying digital solutions in manufacturing.
3. Extensive experience in at least one of the following domains: Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Connectivity, OT Cyber Security, XR systems, Industrial Vision Systems and/or Manufacturing ICT Systems.
4. Expert knowledge of at least one of the high-level programming languages (Python, C#, C++, Java).
5. Very good knowledge of data management platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure) for data acquisition, storage, processing, and analysis.
6. Very good knowledge of the manufacturing sector and understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
7. Ability to work with clients to capture and understand current state challenges of a business, from a systems and process perspective.
8. Ability to refine client challenges into themes and articulate to stakeholders.
9. Experience in technical leadership and coordination of internal teams (subject matter experts) to produce high quality documentation.
10. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are required for the role; able to demonstrate excellent technical report writing and presentation skills, maintaining appropriate level of detail, linking detailed activities back to project objectives and business visions.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
1. At least 5 years' recent and substantial work experience on relevant manufacturing systems in industrial manufacturing or R&D environments.
2. Demonstrable and broad industrial experience with Systems Engineering methodologies, system modelling tools and performing customer requirements analysis from OT and IT perspectives.
3. Knowledgeable of the MLOps lifecycle with demonstrable experience in scoping, designing, and developing AI solutions.
