The role
We are currently looking to appoint a Trade Waste Sales Officer. The role will be pivotal in expanding our commercial waste services, strengthening our client relationships and contributing to the sustainability goals of the Borough. The successful candidate will focus on generating new business, retaining existing customers and providing excellent service to our clients.
Qualifications
Relevant qualification in sales, marketing or business management or equivalent experience
Driving licence, own car would be an advantage
Duties and responsibilities
- Act as a primary point of contact for trade waste enquiries and trade waste customers, addressing queries and resolving issues promptly
- Identify and target potential customers to promote the benefits of the Council’s trade waste service
- Develop and expand waste management schemes to achieve revenue and growth targets
- Prepare proposals and quotes for potential customers
- Visit customers on-site and complete need assessment as required
- Build and maintain good relationships with customers, ensuring high level of satisfaction and retention
- Work with the Council’s Communication team to promote commercial waste service through marketing and campaigns’ including designing and using forms, surveys, and leaflets
- Maintain the trade waste customer database, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing, payments and issue of waste transfer notes
- Responsible for the stock control of the trade waste wheeled bins and related stock items
- Attend meetings of chambers of trade, business forums or similar organisations as required
- Work collaboratively with Operations Team and wider Council to facilitate the efficient delivery of the trade waste service and wider Operations objectives’ including enforcement activities.
- Ensure all customer and business data is handled in compliance with GDPR regulations and council data protection policies, maintaining confidentiality and integrity of Council and customer information at all times.
- Requirement to occasionally work outside office hours’, which includes weekend and evenings.
Person Specification
- Experience of working in a sales environment, undertaking a commercial approach to generate income
- Ability to identify and develop commercial opportunities
- Experience of working in local government, would be an advantage
- Experience of working in a waste and recycling environment, would be an advantage
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels
- Strong organisational skills, with experience of meeting agreed targets
- Excellent IT skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
- Ability to use own initiative and manage own workload with minimal supervision
- Ability and willingness to demonstrate the council’s values and behaviours
- Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
- Requirement to occasionally work outside office hours
