Arriva Rail London is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity within our Engineering team for an Engineering & Assurance Manager!
Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, this role is perfect for a proven manager ready to drive innovation and excellence within a leading rail operator. If you're eager to make a meaningful impact while advancing your expertise, we'd love to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
1. Lead Investigations: You will take charge of accident, incident and technical investigations with our maintenance suppliers, chairing formal reviews and joining investigation panels when needed to drive safety and insights.
2. Deputise for Head of Engineering: This individual will step into a high-impact role, seamlessly covering essential responsibilities in the Head of Engineering's absence.
3. Oversee Engineering Change Initiatives: You will ensure all engineering changes, including new fleet introductions, meet statutory, industry and ARL standards, consulting with regulators and TfL to uphold safety and compliance.
4. Drive Audits and Compliance: The Engineering & Assurance Manager will conduct management checks and fleet technical audits, working closely with the Procurement Team to engage external auditors and verify ARL's compliance with legal and industry standards.
5. Align Procedures with Industry Standards: You will regularly review and update fleet procedures to meet current legislative requirements and best practices whilst guiding local managers on effective implementation.
6. Support the Engineering Team: Providing critical documentation and information will be another key part of this role, ensuring that the Engineering Team will meet all responsibilities under ARL's Safety Management System.
7. Ensure Compliance Standards: You will oversee compliance with all statutory, mandatory and occupational standards for Arriva Rail London operations.
8. Manage Supplier Interface: Establishing robust management systems to oversee fleet maintenance suppliers will be another key part of this role, ensuring that their actions align with ARL's safety and performance standards.
9. Represent ARL in Industry Forums: You will work as an ARL ambassador, engaging in industry conversations through forums like the Technical Standards Working Group, keeping ARL at the forefront of industry developments.
10. Leadership of the Fleet Performance Team: The Engineering & Assurance Manager will manage the Fleet Performance and Technical Engineering team, analysing performance data to address trends, improve reliability and develop proactive engineering solutions whilst supporting the team with professional development.
Qualifications:
1. This individual will ideally be educated to a degree level or will need to have equivalent experience and will need to be a certified Electrical Engineer or to be working towards a Chartered Status.
2. You will need to have strong people management skills with the ability to motivate teams and self, and to have excellent organisation skills.
3. The Engineering & Assurance Manager will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in influencing and negotiating and presenting to teams at all levels.
4. You will need to have a passion for improving safety and finding innovative and practical solutions.
5. This individual will need to have had strong railway fleet experience, with the ability to develop, implement and oversee compliance with fleet safety related technical standards to enable the organisation to operate effectively.
6. You will need to have a technical knowledge of electric multiple unit fleets.
7. Excellent knowledge of statutory, industry and company fleet approvals, engineering changes and fleet maintenance requirements as well as all associated practices and methods of work.
