Key Role:
The Senior Credit Controller is responsible for managing and overseeing the collection of accounts receivable, ensuring timely payment of outstanding invoices and reducing financial risk in line with the current Credit Policy. This role involves building and maintaining strong and positive relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, to facilitate payments on time, resolving account queries, ensuring the company's cash flow remains stable.
Responsibilities:
1. Proactively ensure that customers make timely payments in line with the current credit policy, maintaining a healthy cash flow and minimising financial risk.
2. Prepare new credit requests and credit ratings for the Financial Controller and Finance Director to review and approve/decline.
3. Create and submit credit limit increases for sign off from Financial Controller or Finance Director in line with their thresholds – up to £30,000 (FC) and over £30,000 (FD).
4. Maintain and update credit risk reports using credit reports and record in Cargowise.
5. Identify high-risk accounts and take proactive measures to minimise bad debts, escalating problematic accounts for legal action if required.
6. Create new accounts and maintain the master file in Cargowise.
Accounts Receivable Management
1. Produce and distribute statements to all clients after month end close off.
2. Monitor bank accounts daily and receipt all client payments in Cargowise.
Debt Collection Management
1. Monitor and manage outstanding debts and follow up with customers to minimise overdue payments.
2. Set up and deliver effective collection strategies to reduce overdue accounts that include chasing overdue invoices via phone, email, and written correspondence for a positive outcome.
3. Issue LBAs and when appropriate process legal paperwork for county court action.
Relationship Management & Customer Communication
1. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure timely payments.
2. Negotiate payment plans with customers when necessary.
3. Reconcile customer accounts and resolve queries and discrepancies in a timely manner.
Reporting & Compliance
1. Produce reports for the monthly Credit Committee to review all clients over terms and over credit limits with comments to discuss with various operations heads of departments.
2. Develop and maintain insightful management reporting on key performance indicators.
3. Prepare regular reports on accounts receivable, overdue payments, credit risks and cash flow forecasts.
4. Ensure compliance with company policies and credit control procedures.
5. Work effectively with internal teams to manage credit risk and to optimise credit control processes.
6. Liaise with sales teams to resolve payment issues and disputes.
7. Provide training on credit management best practices as required.

Skills and Experience:

9. Proficiency in accounting software (preferably Cargowise) and Microsoft Excel.
10. Knowledge of financial regulations and credit risk management.
11. At least 5 years current experience in credit control.
12. Knowledge of credit management principles and debt collection processes.
