We are looking to recruit a Pharmacy Ward Services Assistant into our busy Ward Services section of the Pharmacy Department at Frimley Park Hospital.

The Pharmacy Department is a forward thinking and progressive workplace. We are continually seeking to expand our current team as we develop the services provided to the Trust. The successful candidate must be willing to complete a level 2 stock management qualification in pharmacy services.
Main duties of the job
To support the Ward Services manager in facilitating a prompt and efficient pharmaceutical stock supply to customers.
Your duties will involve visiting wards to check and replenish medicines ensuring they are safe to use and available at the appropriate times to treat patients. Other duties include the receipt and storage of stock and putting together stock orders (picking and checking) for delivery to wards and external clinics.
The post may involve travel to other sites (car provided) and a degree of manual handling on a daily basis. The post holder will be expected to wear appropriate PPE where necessary.
General Duties
1. To participate in the distribution service for stock drugs and vaccines to wards, departments, community clinics and GP surgeries to minimise wastage and to ensure adequate stock which is fit for purpose.
2. To participate in the ward topping-up service to ensure availability of stock that is appropriate, in-date and of sufficient quantity. This includes contributing to the periodical reviews of profiles and liaising with ward staff accordingly.
3. Be responsible for the safe custody of Ward Services.
4. Keep accurate records associated with the function of Ward Services.
5. To respond to callers and visitors’ requests for routine information and enquiries.
6. To carry out clerical duties relating to the receipt and subsequent filing of orders and other relevant paperwork.
7. To receive and direct, as appropriate, incoming telephone calls promptly, and record accurate messages as required.
8. To make outgoing telephone calls to other healthcare professionals.
9. To deliver small quantities of medicines to wards as requested.
10. To order, receive and store pharmaceuticals products.
11. To demonstrate Assistant duties to new members of staff.
12. To work according to and within standard operating procedures.
13. To plan own duties to meet needs of the department.
14. To undertake and participate in the internal checking programme for bulk stock issues relevant to Ward Services. Also to assist with the issue and checking of stock orders for issue to wards and departments at Frimley Park Hospital and all other units served.
15. To monitor the storage environment and maintain the records required.
16. To accurately check off and place new stock on Ward Services shelves.
17. To maintain Ward Services stock to minimise wastage.
18. To carry out such alternative duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the Chief Pharmacist or Dispensary Manager.
Pharmacy Computer System
1. Take personal responsibility for the accurate and timely input of information onto the computer system to ensure the maintenance of a reliable database.
2. To have keyboard skills and use the computer systems to record and retrieve information as required.
3. Assist with the routine verification of stock levels to ensure accuracy and reliability of database information.
Education & Training
1. To undertake practical work in the pharmacy department including practical assessment required for the achievement of Stock Management Level 2.
2. To maintain the high standards of the department by contributing towards individual and team objectives.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Educated to GCSE or equivalent, to include English and Mathematics.
2. Level 2 Support Staff Course for Pharmacy Stock Management or willingness to undertake in 1st year of employment.
