Associate Director of Planning (Wind Energy)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Director of Planning to join an expanding Town Planning team across the UK & Ireland. We are looking for an ambitious candidate to help set up and run a new office in Glasgow with a strong focus on the onshore wind sector. Penguin recruitment is delighted to support a growing multi-disciplinary planning and environmental consultancy that offers services across the UK & Ireland from its offices in Galway and Liverpool. Established in 2008, they have 23 full-time employees including experienced town planners, engineers, and operations personnel. They specialise in infrastructure town planning, including in the renewable energy, grid infrastructure, and wireless telecoms sectors.
Over the past years in Ireland, they have delivered consent for 13 utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System projects, including the largest single solar farm in Ireland at 657 acres. The total combined consented projects equate to >1GW Solar PV, 500MW BESS, or enough electricity for approximately 180,000 homes and an annual carbon displacement of 346,000 tonnes per annum.
What You Will Be Doing
1. Leading planning services on strategic infrastructure and renewable energy projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
2. Proactively bringing in new business and growing our business in Scotland.
3. Managing work enquiries, preparing bids, and building client relationships.
4. Collaborating with our multi-disciplinary teams and undertaking stakeholder engagement.
5. Mentoring and supporting Senior and Junior Planners as well as building a team as the business grows.
6. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of planning and energy policies and best practices in Scotland and the UK.
About You
1. Chartered Member of the RTPI.
2. Ideally 5 years relevant post-qualification experience in the onshore wind sector.
3. Demonstrable excellent knowledge of the Scottish planning system.
4. Strong commercial skills to bring in new business.
5. A track record of successfully managing a variety of planning applications across the onshore or offshore wind sectors.
6. A full, clean UK driving licence.
