Sheffield Children's Hospital boasts one of the leading Emergency Departments in the country in terms of the quality and timeliness of the care it provides. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Paediatric Nurse with significant emergency medicine and trauma experience to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team.

This is a temporary position from start date to 9th June 2025.
Main duties of the job
1. To co-ordinate and provide skilled nursing care to patients, in accordance with responsibilities under the NMC Code of Conduct.
2. To participate in the continued development of nursing, including the supervision, teaching and development of junior nurses and support staff.
3. Act as an advocate for patients.
4. To plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients attending a busy paediatric ED/Acute Assessment Unit in consideration of individual need, using prioritisation and delegation skills.
5. To assist the department Manager in managing and developing the Ward/Department.
6. To work collaboratively within a Multidisciplinary team, internal and external to the organisation, to facilitate holistic seamless care delivery for all Patients.

Person Specification
Experience
1. Mentoring experience with nursing students and one-to-one teaching of junior staff
2. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to professional development
3. Staffing experience within speciality
4. Relevant project work
5. Understanding of budgetary or resource management
Qualifications / Training
1. Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse (RN Child, RNLD or RSCN)
2. Willingness to undertake Leadership/Management training
3. Teaching, Mentoring and Assessors qualification
4. Current registration with NMC
5. Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
6. Willingness to undertake study at degree level
7. Relevant Post Basic registration Course
8. Leadership and Management training
Skills and Abilities
1. Effective verbal and written communication skills
2. Able to use own initiative and good decision-making skills
3. Paediatric Life Support training or EPLS
4. Ability to respect the cultural, social and religious diversity within society
5. Effective interpersonal skills

7. Good IT skills, use of Microsoft packages
8. Other Extended Roles relevant to post, eg venepuncture and cannulation
9. E/A.P.L.S. training
Knowledge
1. Role of Senior Staff Nurse and ability to work within and lead a team
2. Understanding of the clinical governance agenda
3. Experience of undertaking the audit process
4. Health, Safety and Risk awareness
5. Awareness of resource management
6. Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Moving and Handling, Sharps, COSHH, Information Governance
7. Responsibility for safe practices of Infection Control principles
8. Principles of Safeguarding of children & training to Level 3
9. Experience in Nursing Speciality of ward or department
10. Able to demonstrate involvement and understanding of the Research process
11. Current certificates to show relevant study and e-learning
