Clinical fellow (ST3+ Equivalent) Vascular Surgery

Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join as a Speciality Clinical Fellow in Vascular & Endovascular surgery in Worcester Royal Hospital. The vascular unit is also one of the busiest in the region. We perform a wide range of open and endovascular arterial interventions along with endovenous surgery across the network, providing opportunity to learn and develop broad vascular surgical experience.
This post would be suitable for applicants who are wishing to gain experience in vascular surgery at registrar/middle grade level after completion of a recognised general training scheme and obtaining full MRCS qualifications (or equivalent). It will be an opportunity to gain exposure across a wide range of vascular conditions and services and serve as a useful stepping board to further speciality training.
Main duties of the job
It is anticipated that the weekly timetable will comprise both timetabled service activity (eg ward rounds and outpatient clinics) and bleep free procedural training opportunities. Successful candidates will be expected to be on call on a one in six frequency non-resident. This will be prospective.
The Vascular team is friendly, supportive and approachable with a commitment to training. Medical students from the University of Birmingham and Warwick Medical School are placed in Worcestershire Royal Hospital, and you will be expected to provide formal and informal teaching.
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a QI project and audits in an area of their interest, supported by a consultant and develop protocols and pathways.
Weekly protected time will be built in to the job plan to enable the applicant to undertake projects, clinical governance activity, continuing professional development activity and non-clinical activity.

Management and Administrative Experience
Essential
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.

Other requirements
Essential
* An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues.
* Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
* Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when undertaking non-resident on call duties.
Qualifications
Essential
* Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Satisfactory completion of ST1-2 training, or equivalent.
* Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.
* ALS Certification.
* ATLS Certification.
Desirable
* Higher degree.
* Attendance at recognised management courses.
* Formal qualification in teaching/education.
Experience
Essential
* Completed at least four years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at CT/ST3 level in relevant specialty. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
* Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty and sufficient experience.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Desirable
* Previous experience working in the NHS within the specialty of minimum of 12 months.
* Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Teaching & Research Experience
Essential
* Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the whole undergraduate curriculum.
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
* Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation and completion of audit projects.
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
* An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiatives.
