Process Engineer
The role
Residing in the Operations Services function and reporting to the Production Support Team Lead, the primary function of this role is to provide process engineering expertise with a focus on production efficiency, production/injection loss management, and plant optimisation activities. The Production Support Process Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality technical support across the range of operated assets to improve asset efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance.
You will:
1. Proactively participate and provide leadership in Production Efficiency & Loss Management related processes and activities, including but not limited to:
2. Act as the asset focal point for the Production Efficiency & Loss Management process within the Production Support team function.
3. Proactively contribute to maintaining a comprehensive database of oil/gas production, water production/injection, and production loss/deferment statistics.
4. Conduct investigations into process-related plant failures which impact safety, production/injection efficiency, equipment availability, and maintenance resources. Identify root causes and provide proposals for improvement actions and engineering changes to improve asset performance.
5. Assist with the resolution of operational problems. Participate in and lead event investigations, equipment failure 5-why & Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions. Facilitate RCA sessions where required.
6. Carry out periodic reviews of production efficiency and production loss performance including, but not limited to: Annual reviews, production budget development, value assessments for maintenance and engineering scopes, as well as supporting various Regulatory, Headquarters, and Co-Venturer reporting requirements.
7. Share and adopt best practices across the company. Identify and support opportunities to enhance consistency and alignment between assets, where practicable.
8. Proactively encourage a production efficiency and plant uptime focus within the company, promote better understanding of the production efficiency impact of various asset work scopes/modifications to aid planning and prioritisation.
9. Provide process engineering and optimisation expertise to assets and projects:
10. Identify opportunities for best-in-class process optimisation and process simplification to improve asset reliability and production efficiency and reduce operating costs.
11. Identify and support opportunities to improve asset environmental performance.
12. Where appropriate, raise proposals for Management of Change in support of optimisation and engineering opportunities.
13. Lead process optimisation/energy efficiency plant trials from creation of the trial procedure through trial execution and post-trial reporting.
14. Provide technical support to assets during unplanned shutdowns or delayed start-ups, as and when required.
15. Collaborate with the Operations Data Engineer, Allocation & Metering Engineers, Asset Teams, and Functions to support the development of enhanced process monitoring capability and digital toolkit:
16. Development of process monitoring screens and supporting calculations to develop the company-wide monitoring capability and streamline troubleshooting.
17. Automate regular process engineering calculations such as unit operation performance, metering mismeasurements, and virtual flow meters.
18. Develop effective interfaces with other departments by maintaining an effective communications network with other functional groups.
You are:
1. Experienced in process upset troubleshooting, plant performance investigations, and Root Cause Analysis methodology.
2. Able to analyse complex data and produce meaningful results.
3. Proven ability to communicate complex information and requirements, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise fashion to a variety of audiences.
4. Familiar with using standard process simulation software (HYSYS) to understand plant performance and generate data for process calculations.
5. Experienced in interacting with operations teams, engineering disciplines, and 3rd party contractors.
6. Effective relationship-builder at all levels, internally and externally.
7. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a flexible team environment.
8. Good working knowledge and application of relevant UK oil and gas industry regulations and guidelines.
9. Strong initiative and orientation towards continuous improvement.
At a minimum, you have:
1. Previous experience in a similar engineering role, including exposure to multi-disciplinary teams, production operations, and/or operations support.
2. Bachelors or Masters degree in relevant Engineering discipline.
3. Professional Registration or working towards.
