An excellent opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to gain employment at Queen Victoria Hospital.
This post incorporates three ongoing rotations of 8 months: one in Hand Therapy, the second on the Burns/Plastics/Head and Neck wards, and the third in the community rehabilitation team. All teams are friendly and dynamic and look forward to welcoming a new member. We operate a Monday to Friday service and have no plans currently to undertake 7 day working. You will receive excellent supervision in both teams from experienced and long-standing senior staff. Opportunities are given for external training as well as a comprehensive in-house package. Previous experience in these specialist areas is beneficial but not essential.
We can offer you the opportunity:
* to work in departments with an excellent international reputation and a wide variety of caseload
* to work with strong clinical and managerial supervision and leadership
* for excellent CPD activities - In-service training, doctors teaching, library support, regular supervision, funding to attend courses and conferences, as well as extra 1:1 support when first starting the role.
* to take initiative with service development projects and audits in collaboration with other team members
* to work within effective, supportive, and cohesive multi-disciplinary teams
Main duties of the job
The Hand Therapy rotation involves the assessment, diagnosis, and formulation of hand therapy treatment to both inpatients and outpatients, referred from Consultants & GPs, in order to maximise patient recovery and function.
The Burns/Plastics/Head and Neck rotation involves the assessment, diagnosis, and formulation of therapy treatment to both inpatients and outpatients (adults and paediatrics) to the burns and plastics unit and plastics wards, in order to maximise patient recovery, function, and safe discharge. This will include the Critical Care Unit and Enhanced Recovery Area.
The Community Rehabilitation team treats a caseload of patients as outpatients attending the unit in single sessions or groups and also delivers rehabilitative therapy within patients' residences in the local area. The majority of the caseload is a mixture of frailty patients or those with chronic conditions including falls patients. A smaller portion of the caseload also includes those with neurological disorders and anxiety.
