The new building and fire safety framework is now in place and the Housing Safety and Compliance Service is growing to meet a range of new challenges.
The Council is currently looking for Fire Safety Officers to join our team.
The successful candidate(s) for this role will need:
* A strong fire safety background and technical competence;
* Formal qualification in fire risk assessment;
* Extensive knowledge of fire safety principles and fire safety law;
* Understanding of guidance and best practice relevant to the housing sector;
* Experience of similar roles and environments;
* An innovative and pragmatic approach to problem solving;
* The ability to develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
The Fire Safety Officer will report to the Fire Safety Team Leader. The key responsibilities of this position include:
* Completing high quality fire risk assessments on the Council's housing stock, including its 87 Higher Risk Buildings;
* As part of the team, delivering the fire risk assessment programme of almost 3000 housing properties;
* Carry out fire risk assessments on Council community centres and caretaker lodges;
* Engage and liaise with residents, resident groups and Council colleagues on fire safety matters;
* Liaise with other stakeholders, such as the London Fire Brigade (LFB) as required.
This is a key role, ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the new Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSM) on fire safety checks.
In addition to delivering the FRA programme, the Fire Safety Officer will:
* Help shape the Council's fire safety policy as new or updated legislation and guidance emerges;
* Provide fire safety advice, guidance and support to residents and colleagues alike;
* Improve the safety of Council housing for the benefit of all residents.
