We are currently working for a client in Stockport who are looking to train and develop a 3rd person in their proven and successful junior installation engineer programme. Currently, they have one person who is 12 months in and is now a fully fledged install engineer (which has been recognised with pay increases), and a 2nd engineer who started 3 months ago and is really getting to grips with things. They now need a 3rd person to step in and follow this successful career development route.
What does the job involve?
This company designs, installs and services their own fire suppression systems. You will be travelling to sites and working alongside a senior engineer to assist in the installation of fire safety equipment (primarily sprinkler systems). This will involve working in construction environments (you will gain your CSCS card), acting as a labourer and helper at first whilst gaining more experience from their experts. Duties will expand as you get more experience and feel more comfortable in the role.
What skills / background do you need for this role?
The short answer is none! We need the right attitude – the rest can be taught. The ideal person will be able to demonstrate: -
That you are reliable – this role involves early starts (the normal day is 7am – 3pm, Monday to Friday) and people being late or absent can have a huge knock-on effect for the team.
The ability to learn – this is a junior / trainee position after all!
That you want a “career move” – senior people in this industry earn good money and are in high demand. They are happy to develop your skills fully and offer you plenty of opportunities to gain expertise.
Good customer service skills.
Ability to drive and own vehicle – you won’t be driving far on a daily basis, but may need to meet up with the other engineers in the mornings so you can all travel to site together in the lead engineer’s van.
Anyone who is practically minded, wants a trade, and has a track record of being a reliable member of staff elsewhere will be considered. This is a real opportunity to take your career to the next level over the next couple of years with a company and management team that have a proven track record of doing it successfully with the other trainees in the team.
