Every person deserves the right to access meaningful education. As a Teacher, you’ll ensure that neurodiverse young adults (aged between 16 and 25) have the best education opportunities available. You’ll take a leading role in our English curriculum, designing and delivering classes for learners working at pre-entry and level 2.
Our curriculum offer is structured around the Post 16 Study Programme model, which includes a learning program, work experience, Maths and English, and other non-qualification activities to enrich our learners' experience and prepare them for adulthood. Your role will specifically focus on teaching English and supporting other teaching colleagues in their English classes.
You’ll receive all the training and support you need to ensure our learners have the best experience possible, including curriculum development skills and collaboration with our integrated therapies team.
This college has between 5 and 7 learners in each class, allowing you to build meaningful relationships with the learners you support.
A day in the life of a Teacher will involve:
* Working with the wider teaching team to embed functional English into every learner’s bespoke curriculum.
* Leading classroom activities including planning, teaching, and assessing learning, focusing on functional English skills across a range of classes with students of differing abilities.
* Monitoring and recording progress, both academically and against EHCP outcomes.
* Keeping learners engaged, motivated, and inspired to reach their full potential.
* Providing inspirational learning opportunities to learners, whether in the classroom or out in the community, working either 1:1 with learners or in small group settings.
* Directing Learning Support Assistants to effectively support the learners.
* Developing a curriculum bespoke to each individual learner, being adaptable in your teaching style.
* Recognising when a learner's progress is at risk and seeking to understand each young person and their needs.
To be a successful Teacher you’ll need:
* Patience, compassion, and resilience—supporting neurodiverse learners may impact their learning behavior and communication needs.
* Great communication skills for engaging with learners, parents, and other stakeholders.
* Involvement in EHCPs and shaping a curriculum based on individual target outcomes.
* Flexibility and adaptability to manage changing circumstances.
* A genuine interest in educating individuals with a wide range of needs.
In return for your time, you’ll get:
* Holidays: Work 42.4 weeks during term time, with paid annual leave for the remaining 9.6 weeks.
* Pension scheme: 5% contribution from you, with 3% added by us.
* Learning & Development Opportunities: Comprehensive learning opportunities for team members.
* Discounts: Access to discounts through the Blue Light Card and employee benefits platform.
* Wellbeing Support: Access to mental health and wellbeing support, including a monthly confidential check-in clinic.
* Cycle2Work: Scheme enabling you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
* DBS: We will cover the cost of your enhanced DBS check.
After 12 months of service, you’ll also be eligible for our Medicash scheme covering various medical, health, and wellbeing expenses, including immediate access to a GP, life assurance at x2 your annual salary, and additional high street discounts.
Please note that as part of our safer recruitment processes, successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, online and social media checks, and reference validation.
At Phoenix Learning and Care, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce and inclusive environment for all team members. We are committed to ensuring our teams can bring their true selves to work without risk or fear of discrimination.
