Job summary An exciting and new opportunity has arisen for a part time (12 hours) occupational therapy support worker to work within the perinatal mental health service based at the Park Road Wellbeing Centre in Pontypool. The service is a specialist community team that covers the whole of the Gwent locality. This multi-disciplinary team provides care and treatment to women who are pregnant or postnatal and are at risk of, or are affected by mental illness. The team offer evidence based treatments in a way that is best suited to the woman, her baby and family. The post is community based and the successful applicant will see individuals within their own home. The post is fixed term for 12 months to meet the needs of the service. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing Occupational Therapy interventions under the direction of a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT). OT's work with individuals to establish the impact of their mental health needs on their day to day functioning. They devise person-centred plans for intervention (group and one to one including facilitation of the 'discovery through activity' OT programme) with the individual to further assess, improve or maintain their functional ability. Interventions offered in the community aim to maximise opportunities to create meaningful connections in the community and address individual goals in line with recovery based practice. The successful applicant will:- have excellent communication skills- have the ability to think creatively and flexibly- be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion and values of person-centred care. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Due to being a community service, the ability to travel between sites is essential for this post.
