The Clinical Engineering Service is looking for an individual to join our team to complement our existing staff groups.
Do you have an interest in engineering technology, looking to learn how medical health science technology promotes better health for all and be part of an advanced engineering support service within our local NHS Trusts?
You will be based at Torbay Hospital, working alongside various sections within the service. Your main initial role will be to support the front-line service provided by the Medical Mechanical Engineering and Devices Library, part of the Medical Electronics Section.
The Devices Library is an internal loan service to Torbay Hospital for key items of medical equipment used in all wards & most departments. We expect you to visit health care sites in Devon to collect and return devices and undertake simple and straightforward repairs.
Over the next few years, there is an opportunity to develop technical competencies, which may lead to fully funded engineering training programs at local colleges [L3/L4/HNC] and University [Level 6/Bsc/Beng].
You will be required to travel to other centres in the South Devon area in the course of your work and will need to hold a full driver’s licence.
* The post holder will undertake the delivery and retrieval of medical devices and equipment supporting the Clinical Engineering Services for the Medical Electronics section.
* The post holder will perform straightforward repairs, scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, safety, and acceptance testing on a wide range of medical devices under close supervision. These activities may be carried out at another site in the Devon Area under the close supervision of a more experienced technician.
* Will provide guidance and training to colleagues & junior staff in the procedures to undertake function checks, clean, and check loan status of medical devices held by the Medical Electronics Section.
The Clinical Engineering Service provides a comprehensive management & technical support service for a broad spectrum of medical devices used throughout the health, care, and social community. We are currently developing networks with scientific and laboratory services across Devon with our new Scientific, Laboratory Equipment Support section.
The Medical Devices Library functions as a loan service for key medical devices commonly used throughout the acute Trust. This has enabled the organization to promote & implement a strong standardization theme for medical devices held as library stock, enabling efficiencies in consumable costs, reduced opportunities for user error, and less diversity requiring technical support, repair & maintenance.
Medical Electronics being the largest section in CES (providing repair, routine scheduled service maintenance, troubleshooting, technical advice, and commissioning & device disposal (‘cradle to grave’)). Medical Electronics implements and manages Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Safety Notices and Manufacturer product recall/updates. Within this section, there are three teams providing specialist support for: Critical Care areas (Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit & High Dependency) and Operating Theatre Support (all Operating Theatres and Recovery areas).
