Electricity Grid Engineer (Maternity Cover)

Job Purpose:
Following a year of growth and success, we are looking for a suitably qualified candidate to provide maternity cover for our Grid Engineer. At the end of the fixed term, there is the potential to be made permanent subject to performance and business need.
This is a customer-facing role that will provide expert grid consultancy to external clients as well as supporting other businesses within the Eclipse Power Group.
The candidate must have good knowledge of the engineering and regulatory requirements of grid connections at both distribution and transmission. These roles would suit somebody with design or network planning background at either a developer, ICP, network company or consultant.
The role will also involve providing design and feasibility services to our new private networks business Eclipse Power Optimise. Dependent on the growth of this new business, this role may have the option to transfer over on a more permanent basis.
Contract & Remuneration:
* 9 month fixed term, with potential to become permanent
* Start April 2025
* Salary dependent on skills and experience, but no less than £45k pro-rata
* 5% employer pension contribution, post probation (3 months)
* 26 days' annual leave + bank holidays pro-rata
* Hybrid, remote or office as desired; role will require travel to office locations in Olney and London as well as client sites.
Main responsibilities will include:
* Providing expert advice to customers – technical, commercial, regulatory
* Concept design – cable route due diligence, front end feasibility design, tender scoping documentation etc
* Developing engineering design services to further the growth of Eclipse Power Solutions
* Producing and reviewing power systems studies for grid connections – application (G99 or DRC), compliance (G99, Grid Code), fault level, load flow, private wire, off-grid etc
* Undertaking calculations for transformer, cable, switchgear sizing etc
* Producing single line diagrams (SLDs), designs and layouts on AutoCAD
* Producing contestable works estimates, reviewing ICP quotes and running ICP tenders for customers
* Producing concept design of private networks and microgrids, LV to 132 kV
* Load flow analysis and modelling to inform microgrid/private network configuration in relation to load and generation
* Advising on integration of BESS and renewables into microgrids and private networks in relation to load and generation
Other responsibilities will include:
* Supporting Eclipse Power Networks design assurance and programme delivery teams as necessary
* Liaising with DNOs, NESO and TOs to assess feasibility, secure and optimise grid connections
* Securing new business and maintaining existing industry and customer relationships
* Managing pipeline, communications and workload effectively, owning and inputting key data
* Keeping up to date with industry developments, influencing for improvement
* Representing the Eclipse Power Group on industry workgroups and at events
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
* Relevant qualifications/experience in electrical and/or power systems engineering
* Experience with electrical design (LV, HV, EHV)
* Ability to use power systems modelling software (DiGSILENT preferred)
* Ability to use computer drawing software (e.g. AutoCAD)
* Technical knowledge of the GB grid and compliance (G99, Grid Code)
* Knowledge of the connections process at distribution and transmission, for generation and demand
* Track record in securing viable grid connections/providing grid advice
* Ability to utilise network company resources for assessing viability of connections
* Confidence to challenge network operator assumptions and standards to drive efficiencies
* Ability to work independently and with agility, effectively prioritising tasks
* Desire to provide innovative and creative ideas to grow the business and drive efficiencies
* Effective communicator of technical subjects to non-technical audiences – both oral and written
* Consultancy experience, scoping requirements and preparing proposals
* Chartership, or working towards
* Engagement with industry initiatives and workgroups
* Strong network of industry contacts
* Full driving licence valid in the UK

Our Group consists of Eclipse Power Networks – an OFGEM licensed Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) that provides an effective alternative to the local distribution network operator; Eclipse Power Solutions – an expert Grid Consultancy who support customers through the grid connection process; and Eclipse Power Optimise; our new business focussed on microgrids and private networks; in the unlicensed market.
