Role Overview To carry out all statutory duties, actions required under discretionary powers, and actions resulting from policy decisions, in the application of the Council’s environmental health functions, as managed, administered and enforced by the Environmental Health service. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute top-tier environmental health services aligned with the Corporate Plan, driving continuous improvements in council services. Collaborate closely with team members and management to ensure the highest standards of environmental health service delivery. Stay updated on relevant environmental health legislation and demonstrate proficiency in compliance, adhering to the Food Law Code of Practice's Competency Framework. Conduct comprehensive inspections and investigations, including food hygiene, health and safety, infectious diseases, and environmental hazards. Provide expert advice and guidance to the public, residents, businesses, and stakeholders on matters related to food safety, infectious disease control, and workplace health and safety. Qualifications And Skills A degree (BSc/MSc) or diploma in Environmental Health. Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board. Voting membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Able to demonstrate compliance with the Competency Framework detailed in the Food Standards Agency Food Law Code of Practice by annually producing documented evidence of training, skills, and experience. Completion of continual professional development related to Food Safety (minimum 20 hours per year), Health and Safety at Work (minimum 10 hours per year). Elevated level of literacy and numeracy. Have excellent written & oral communication skills including the ability to explain complex legal & technical issues to members of the public.
