Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join the Mental Health Law (MHL) team. The post holder will be self-motivated and hard working with the ability to adapt quickly in a busy office environment.
The role is to work closely with the MHL Manager and MHL Team to deliver an effective and efficient service for Trust professionals with the implementation and monitoring of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act Legislation.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for scrutinising legal documentation and accurate recording of MHA activity, requiring a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
They will manage a caseload, undertaking all relevant tasks to ensure patients are safeguarded within legislative frameworks. This includes close liaison with clinical staff and external agencies/organisations, requiring the ability to prioritise workload and good communication skills.
They will be required to keep updated with caselaw and any legislative changes to ensure advice provided is accurate and in accordance with the MHA Code of Practice.
The MHL Team is a forward thinking, innovative team working to protect patients rights and ensure regulatory actions are adhered to. The team take a hybrid approach to working, mixing home and office working dependant on service need. Communication between team members is essential, the ethos of the team being to support each other to achieve the goal of ensuring lawful detention and protecting the rights of vulnerable patients.
