We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Accountant on behalf of our client who is a dynamic and forward-thinking Independent Connection Provider (ICP) and Engineering Procurement Contractor (EPC) based in Leeds city centre.
Role Overview
As a Bookkeeper / Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow, control, and storage of documentation related to our engineering, procurement, and construction activities. You will maintain and manage technical and contractual documentation for multiple projects, ensuring compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintaining Financial Records
Recording financial transactions accurately and promptly using accounting software or manual ledgers.
Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, bill payments, and customer invoicing.
2. Bank Reconciliation
Reconciling bank statements with company records to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
Resolving any discrepancies or errors in a timely manner to maintain financial integrity.
3. Financial Reporting
Generating financial reports, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, on a regular basis.
Providing financial reports to management for decision-making purposes and regulatory compliance.
4. Budgeting and Forecasting
Assisting with the preparation of company and project budgets and forecasts based on historical data and future projections.
Monitoring actual financial performance against budgeted targets and identifying variances for analysis.
5. Tax Compliance
Ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations by preparing and filing accurate tax returns, including VAT returns, payroll taxes, and corporate taxes.
Collaborating with external tax advisors or accountants to address complex tax issues and optimize tax planning strategies.
6. Payroll Administration
Processing payroll accurately and in a timely manner, including calculating employee salaries, wages, deductions, and benefits.
Ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations related to payroll, such as minimum wage requirements and overtime regulations.
7. Internal Controls
Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
Conducting periodic audits and reviews of financial processes and procedures to identify weaknesses and improve controls.
8. Financial Analysis
Conducting financial analysis to assess company performance, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
Analysing financial data to support strategic decision-making and business planning initiatives.
What We're Looking For
1. Experience: Previous experience in a Bookkeeper / Accountant role, ideally within the engineering, construction, or renewable energy sectors.
2. Software Skills: Proficiency in document control systems (e.g. Egnyte, SharePoint, or similar), as well as MS Office Suite.
3. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
4. Problem-Solving: Ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
5. Qualifications: A relevant qualification in accountancy, administration, or project management is advantageous but not essential.
