About the opportunity
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a small team (approximately 4 developers) while actively contributing to the technical direction and success of our software development initiatives. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality deliverables, and adherence to best practices.
About your responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Management:
1. Lead and mentor a team of 4+ software developers, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
2. Manage the team's workload, including prioritizing tasks, assigning work, and tracking progress.
3. Conduct regular team meetings to discuss project updates, address roadblocks, and foster open communication.
4. Monitor team performance and identify areas for improvement.
2. Technical Leadership:
5. Define and implement technical strategies and best practices for the team.
6. Participate in the design and architecture of new software features and applications.
7. Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
8. Guide the team in the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
3. Project Delivery:
9. Oversee the delivery of software projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
10. Work closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other teams to gather requirements, define scope, and manage expectations.
11. Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that may impact project timelines and success.
4. Technical Expertise:
12. Maintain strong technical expertise in Python, Django, and related technologies.
13. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation.
14. Contribute to the development of new software features and applications as needed.
What you'll need to succeed
15. 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development with at least 5 years of experience with Python and Django.
16. 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring software development teams.
17. Strong understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban).
18. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
19. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
20. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on finding practical solutions.
21. Experience with managing BAU (Business as Usual) SLAs and handling support tickets.
22. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
Role location
This is a hybrid role so you'll be based from our Cwmbran office twice each week to work and collaborate with colleagues. To sustain a healthy work - life balance, we'd expect you to be within a sensible commute (probably no more than an hour). There's plenty of free carparking onsite.
