Description
The role of the Shift Engineer is to carry out all necessary installation, maintenance and operations associated with the entire Electrical and Mechanical infrastructure and associated building services supporting the Data Centre, these are essential in maintaining the integrity of I.T. Services. Additionally, the shift engineer is accountable to the Engineering Shift Manager and is part of a multi skilled electrical and mechanical team.
365 Days covered shifts, 3x12 Days, 3 x Nights (6 days off) (5x18 days break per year)
Your responsibilities will include:
* Operation and maintenance of complex engineering systems, ensuring that work is completed to the acceptable standards within the agreed timescales and with no disruption to IT Services.
* Implement effective emergency operating procedures to ensure system recovery is achieved with minimum impact to services, escalating and raising awareness as appropriate.
* Scheduling and managing the planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance of engineering systems and infrastructure, whilst ensuring work is completed within agreed timescales and to expected quality.
* Other dimensions of the role include the scheduling and execution of all required infrastructure installations required to support IT Hardware & Equipment.
* Improving service quality, by continuously reviewing and enhancing methods of operation and maintenance, effectively utilising tools and system employed with the Group Data Centre.
* The job holder is responsible for the reliability and continuous operation of all engineering and building services.
* Ensure current Health & Safety legislation and statutory requirements are met by implementing and developing safe working standards and procedures within the department.
* Resolving operational issues, making concise, accurate, informed and timely decisions, where required without reference thereby, ensuring the integrity of infrastructure is maintained in support of IT Services.
The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications.
* Ideally have NVQ IV BTEC HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering.
* A track record of gaining an understanding of customers’ needs and delivering excellent customer service.
* Ideally have experience of working complex systems in a Data Centre environment but not essential as training will be given
* Nice to have experience of Power (HV & LV systems) Drups and UPS Systems, Air Conditioning & water systems.
* A flexible and adaptable approach to change and will support others to respond in a similar way.
* Experience of making prompt and practical business decision, even in times of ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for outcome.
