Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery Directorate. We are looking for a highly motivated Clinical Vascular Scientist, whose primary role will be to perform, interpret and report complex detailed diagnostic vascular ultrasound exams to the highest standard. The post-holder will participate in training and supervising junior members of staff and students, and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the department, reviewing and vetting scan requests to determine appropriateness and clinical urgency to prioritise workload as needed. In addition, the post-holder will participate in clinical audits and research activities within the department.
Main duties of the job
* To perform, interpret and report a wide range of vascular ultrasound scans and other tests for vascular conditions, working autonomously, and provide clinical supervision to the other junior vascular scientists as required.
* Assist in the day-to-day running of the department. Review and vet scan requests and determine appropriateness and clinical urgency.
* To take part in clinical research and audit activities within the Vascular Laboratory.
* Participate in teaching/supervising junior members of staff and visiting students.
* Participate in the implementation of new, improved and optimised methods, techniques and service improvements.
Requirements
You should have one of the following qualifications: fully accredited vascular scientist (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology GB & Ireland (SVT), STP graduate or an equivalent body if trained abroad. You must also have a relevant post-graduation qualification such as a PGCert, PGDip, MSc or equivalent.

Experience
* Ability to independently perform, interpret and report Carotid/Vertebral arteries, lower limb arteries and lower limb venous (DVT and incompetence)
* Extensive ultrasound scanning experience
* Experience post accreditation
* Experience performing pre/post AVF scans
Qualifications
* Science Degree (BSc level or higher)
* AVS (Full Accreditation with Society of Vascular Technology for Great Britain and Ireland) or HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist
* MSc in Ultrasound related subject
Skills
* Highly developed analytical and judgmental skills.
* Highly developed technical and clinical communication skills, both written and spoken.
