You will be a key player in the early stages of the development of my clients organisation, a not-for-profit joint venture set up in partnership with the gas transporters to deliver code administrative services to the gas industry. Your role will be instrumental in overseeing the governance processes for the industry code which underpins the operations of the GB natural gas market and for securing the regulatory contract to become Ofgem’s designated Code Manager, a role developed as part of the Energy Code Reform Programme. The organisation currently has 10 FTEs, and upon the successful win of the bid, the organisation will grow further in numbers. Role Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a strong background in governance and regulation. Your role will be to lead and develop the organisation and to secure the next stage in our development in becoming the appointed Code Manager. This role is uniquely positioned for a proven CEO, Managing Director, or Operations Director ready to take the next step. You will take responsibility for the overview and strategic development of the business, and working closely with the Board, you will lead the business through the code manager selection and appointed process. Key Responsibilities: · Strategic Leadership: Your role as CEO will be crucial in developing and implementing strategic plans to secure the code manager appointed win. Your ability to ensure alignment with the mission and vision will be key to our success. · Team Leadership : Inspire, mentor, and develop a strong and successful organization, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement; enhancing the organisation's ability to attract and retain an effective high-performing team. · Reporting : Ensure reporting mechanisms are developed and implemented, working collaboratively with the wider business, leadership team, and Board. · Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong, effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Government and Regulatory officials, industry parties, and the Board of Directors. · Spearhead the Organisation: Become the figurehead of the organisation, representing the organisation at external industry forums and building relationships across the full gas value chain – gas shippers, transporters, storage operators, consumer rights companies, and academics. · Organisational change experience : The shape and culture of the organisation will evolve over time as the bid for Code Manager progresses, and experience in managing organisational change will be key. · Operational Excellence : Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across all departments. Streamline processes and systems to support rapid growth. Ensure strong relationships with industry, and a customer-centric approach. · Financial Management : Oversee financial performance, budgets, and forecasting. Ensure the company's financial health and stability are maintained with a keen focus on actively minimising costs. · Strategic Drive : Drive forward the bid for code management, influencing and engaging externally on the matter, ensuring responses to consultations reflect company positions, and securing the code manager role for the business. · Future Development : Upon successful achievement of the bid – you will lead the transition to the code manager organisation, ensuring the business model, people, and processes are fit for the future. Qualifications and Experience: · Proven experience in a senior leadership role (CEO, COO, Executive Operations Director, or MD) within a similar sized organisation or a senior role in a highly regulated industry, preferably utilities (not essential). · Experience in delivering strategy and implementing change. · Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with regulators, governing bodies and stakeholders; managing competing and conflicting views inclusively, fairly and transparently. · Demonstrated success in winning and securing new business/bids and implementing systems and processes to ensure the success of these wins. · Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. · A passion for energy efficiency and striving towards achieving Net Zero · Adaptable, dependable, and capable of making difficult decisions. This role requires a high level of adaptability, dependability, and the ability to make tough decisions, as you will be leading the organisation through a period of significant change and growth.
