NRL’s engineering client is looking to recruit an Instrument Designer to be based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The Instrument Designer will support the local projects team by providing Electrical & Instrument Design and Consulting Services.
About the role:
* This role requires a high level of autonomy and strong communication skills.
* The Instrument Designer should have a technical engineering design background. Projects include:
* Extensive flow and pressure monitoring projects
* Upgrade of effluent plant to PLC control
* Upgrade of process plant to DCS
Role Details:
* The Instrument Designer will work closely with the Multi-Discipline Design Team and Project Manager to support pharmaceutical projects.
* The post holder will:
* Review and assess customer needs
* Provide resource estimates for design activities
* Produce reports, scope of works, concept designs, and detailed designs (Typically RIBA stages 2-4)
* Support project delivery within time, quality, and budget constraints
* Create documentation according to standards and quality requirements
* Liaise with design and equipment subcontractors
* Coordinate with Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil disciplines
* Provide 2D Design Deliverables, GAs, equipment layouts, and cable/containment routing diagrams
* Develop Cable Block Diagrams
* Design Instrument Loop Diagrams
* Create Honeywell BMS Interface Diagrams
Requirements:
* Extensive experience in a relevant design role, including electrical installation designs in the pharmaceutical sector
* HNC or Degree in a technical engineering subject
* Membership of a professional institution is desirable
Experience in UK pharmaceutical construction projects is desirable but not essential.
* Knowledge of E&I design best practices
* Compex 12 Qualification is desirable
* Experience in ATEX Hazardous Area design and protection concepts, including Intrinsic Safety
* Experience in Functional Safety (IEC61508/IEC61511) is desirable
* Project lifecycle experience from concept to construction support
* Knowledge of data and administrative management practices
* Understanding of CDM Regulations 2015
* Ability to undertake site surveys
* Strong collaborative skills and experience working in a multi-discipline team
* Ability to work independently or in a team, liaising with client representatives
* Strong communication and organizational skills
Software Skills:
* Proficiency in AutoCAD LT
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
