Principal Systems Engineer – product certification Stoke on Trent area, Staffordshire, UK To £68k benefits This is a mixed role that will involve providing input to all aspects of product development from concept, through approvals and certification to production. This will be done through the provision of knowledge regarding compliance and regulations specific to the product. Required: Principal Systems Engineer A background in engineering design / development (e.g. mechatronics, electromechanical systems, machines, vehicles, hydraulics systems, etc). Understanding of electromechanical control (safety critical) Experience, knowledge or a strong interest in product compliance, standards and certification (e.g. relating to machine directive or similar) Experience of supporting product development across the product lifecycle Analytical with a good eye for detail and quality This role could suit engineers with a broad range of skills and backgrounds and could lead to gaining experience with functional safety. It will also enable exposure to product requirement definition, validation, approvals / certification, compliance and FMEA. The company is involved with the design and manufacture of machines and vehicles for construction and agricultural applications. Experience of such products would be desirable. Skills / Knowledge Required: Principal Systems Engineer Ideally a degree or higher in a relevant subject (e.g. electronics, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or similar) Probably at least 8 years of relevant industry experience working within systems engineering, compliance engineering, type approvals, systems design, product validation or similar Excellent communication and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail, quality and adherence to standards Ability to interpret complex information, data or legislation and transform this into meaningful product design, validation and compliance requirements Able to use analysis tools (e.g. FMEA, RCA, FTA, safety analysis) and develop risk assessments to support system definition Experience of systems integration and problem solving would be great Able to coordinate test, validation and certification activities Others (beneficial) - Principal Systems Engineer Ability to produce control systems models using Matlab, Simulink or dSpace Experience with developing DVPs Knowledge of safety critical vehicle systems (e.g. brakes, suspension, powertrain, active safety, etc) Experience if functional safety would be very useful This is a diverse job involving a mix of some type-approval work, making sure vehicles are compliant to legislation, but also involves systems development and exposure to vehicle test, development and certification.
