Job Summary
Thames Valley Cancer Alliance is a partnership that brings together leaders from different hospital trusts, GPs and primary care, health and social organisations, covering a population of nearly 1.8 million people. Our aim is to improve the diagnosis, treatment and care for cancer patients in our local area.
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Cancer Data Analyst to join our innovative and dynamic team. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Service Improvement and Cancer Data Analyst to ensure the TVCA programme teams can utilise significant data insight to support delivery of their programmes.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will work as part of the TVCA team in delivering effective data oversight services, working alongside the Head of Service Improvement, supporting managers and staff across the Cancer Alliance programmes to ensure that their workstream programmes are planned and managed effectively. The post holder will have strong leadership skills, strong analytical skills, technically very competent, gives attention to detail, is used to working with large data sets, is good at problem solving, and has the ability to create useful information from data.
You will be deeply committed to system integration and have a natural ability to engage and collaborate with varied stakeholders and continue to improve the health and wellbeing of our population.
Job Responsibilities
1. Ensure evidence and analytics are secured to support and inform alliance and ICB cancer related activities, and support insight in the use of these to drive quality improvement.
2. Provide data and informatics expertise to support the development of the TVCA cancer data dashboard.
3. Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence and papers, and ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects.
4. Have good project management skills, including the ability to plan, manage and deliver a portfolio of projects, juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines for themselves and the team, and work autonomously to drive own work programme and that of team members.
5. Be a clear communicator with excellent written and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately to a diverse and varied range of audiences consisting of internal and external stakeholders.
6. Build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders, engaged with the programme, communicate messages effectively and ensure local qualitative analysis is aligned with the national perspective.
7. Operate in a highly political and sensitive environment.
Person Specification
Experience
* Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to masters level equivalent.
* Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
* Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health & Social Care and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
* Use specialist skills and knowledge across a range of areas relating to data management and interpretation such as SQL Server, SAS and Excel.

* Problem-solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
* Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options.
* Takes decisions on difficult and contentious issues where there may be a number of courses of action.
* Strategic thinking ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise.

Qualifications
* Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
* Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
