The Role: As Regional Director you will be responsible for leading the planning team in the York office, managing and leading the office and encouraging crossworking across a wider range of disciplines. The role will also involve assisting the Director of Planning in the overall management of the Planning Division as directed, and to be an ambassador for the company by winning new business and playing a prominent role in helping to develop the business. We are in excess of an 80 strong team nationwide and equipped to deliver projects at any scale. The Regional Director will be tasked to build out and generate opportunities across all our sectors (including Residential, Commercial and Assets and Estates) and generate opportunities with new and existing clients. The position will involve: Strong client liaison to attract further work with evidence that clients will work alongside them without need for higher level involvement Strong networking skills and the ability to build contacts across the industry and with key contacts in local planning authorities Targets, establishes, consolidates, and builds on relationships with new and existing clients and colleagues Able to lead winning presentations and to produce final reports and presentations with little or no input from seniors Uses technical knowledge to identify and realise client opportunities through both tried and tested and innovative methods. Responsible for negotiating major contracts with customers/clients and or suppliers/contractors including managing legal and contractual aspects. Develops business opportunities with new and existing clients with little or no support and demonstrates excellent judgement and ability in targeting strategic and profitable jobs. Makes decisions at a tactical level with some strategic input to overall functional strategy and regional Business Plan. Freedom to make decisions affecting the function within the overall business strategy. Has a strong professional profile and reputation both internally and within the industry and utilises this effectively to leverage business opportunities. Responsible for the P&L, budget, profitability and SHEQ aspects for specific area(s), activity and/or project(s) Responsible for predicting and planning future resources including liaising with other divisions across Lanpro to ensure effective utilisation of team(s) Effectively manages significant and complex projects to a high standard, with no supervision. Takes a key role in projects within relevant specialised field and provides technical leadership. Manages the delivery of specialised components of projects. Project managing planning appeals including appearing at appeal hearings and/or as an expert witness at appeal inquiries. Preparing tender responses. Performing strategic planning research and policy development including assessments of development potential. Undertaking site inspections and assessing the merits of proposals. Giving guidance to engineers/architects on the production of drawings and supplementary information in relation to planning submissions. The position will involve you having: An RTPI accredited degree or Masters in a related discipline Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute A Planning degree and at least 8 years’ professional experience, preferably with some experience of working in the private sector including having led on large scale schemes and projects. Minimum of 3-5 years people management experience and operating at a strategic operation level. Experienced in transformational change and mentoring individuals at a more junior level. Excellent communication skills. Strong client management and resolution including the ability to present at senior levels and across a range of stakeholders, and to large audiences. Expert negotiation skills. Excellent project management and organisational skills. Strong report writing skills and ability to review colleagues’ work providing constructive feedback. A strong awareness of local politics and the interface between planning and politics. Exemplary knowledge and expertise of planning practice legislation across England and Wales. Outstanding project management skills coupled with timeliness, accuracy and attention to detail Ability to prioritise workloads and juggle competing demands.
