Saltaire Brewery is an independent brewery known for producing high-quality, characterful beers. With a strong reputation in the craft brewing industry, we are looking for a Packaging Manager to oversee our packaging operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with industry standards.
Role Overview
The Packaging Manager is responsible for leading the packaging team, ensuring beer is packaged efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality. This role involves overseeing bottling, canning, and kegging operations while maintaining health & safety, productivity, and quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
* Oversee all aspects of packaging, including bottling, canning, kegging, and cask filling.
* Ensure packaging processes meet quality control standards, minimizing waste and defects.
* Manage stock levels of packaging materials (bottles, cans, labels, kegs, etc.).
* Work closely with the Brewing, Logistics, and Sales teams to meet production schedules.
* Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and cost savings.
Quality & Compliance
* Ensure all packaging meets industry standards for hygiene, consistency, and presentation.
* Conduct quality assurance checks and troubleshoot packaging defects or inefficiencies.
* Maintain compliance with food safety regulations, SALSA/BRC standards, and environmental policies.
* Ensure all record-keeping (e.g., batch traceability) is accurate and up to date.
Team Leadership & Training
* Supervise and develop the packaging team, ensuring training in best practices and safety protocols.
* Schedule shifts and allocate tasks to meet production targets.
* Foster a positive, safety-focused work environment.
Health & Safety
* Maintain a safe working environment in line with HSE regulations.
* Ensure correct handling of hazardous materials, including CO₂ management.
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure the correct use of PPE.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
* Experience in packaging or production management (preferably in food & beverage, brewing, or FMCG).
* Knowledge of bottling, canning, kegging, or cask filling processes.
* Strong leadership and team management skills.
* Understanding of quality control, health & safety, and regulatory compliance.
* Problem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in the brewing industry or a similar field.
* Knowledge of automation and packaging machinery.
* Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
