CRS are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Junior/Assistant Mechanical Estimator in Surrey.
The role
Assist in estimating the cost of mechanical systems for construction projects. This involves reviewing project plans, specifications, and contracts to prepare accurate and competitive estimates, ensuring alignment with project scope, budget, and timeline.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Estimation:
* Assist in preparing mechanical cost estimates for various types of projects including HVAC and Plumbing.
* Review and analyse drawings, specifications, and contracts to determine project requirements.
* Research materials, labour, and subcontractor costs to develop accurate estimates.
* Perform take-offs and quantities for mechanical systems to estimate costs.
2. Collaboration:
* Work with senior estimators, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather information for estimates.
* Assist in coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and bids.
* Maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors for cost updates.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
* Prepare and maintain detailed records of estimates and supporting documentation.
* Assist in preparing bid proposals and presentations for clients.
* Ensure all estimates comply with company policies and industry standards.
4. Site Visits and Evaluation:
* Occasionally visit project sites to assess conditions, gather additional information, and ensure the estimate aligns with actual site conditions.
* Perform measurements and gather details necessary for preparing accurate estimates.
5. Software and Tools:
* Use estimation software to assist in the preparation of cost estimates.
* Maintain accurate records and use spreadsheets or specialized software for tracking estimates.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Experience: Some experience in mechanical estimation, construction, or a related field is preferred.
* Technical Skills: Familiarity with mechanical systems and construction estimation software.
* Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and manage costs effectively while ensuring accuracy.
* Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to liaise with clients, vendors, and project teams.
* Problem Solving: Ability to analyse and resolve issues related to cost estimation and project requirements.
Work Environment:
* Office-based with occasional site visits
