Academic Appointments are working alongside a large Secondary SEND Provision in Bradford, who are recruiting for passionate and qualified BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistants to join their team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with varying needs, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
This school was graded ‘Good’ in its last Ofsted inspection, with “A strong and shared safeguarding culture throughout the school, which is supported by designated leaders in each key stage”.
The school caters for over 300 pupils aged 11 - 16 years, with a range of Special Education Needs including Autism, Social emotional and Mental Health needs.
The right candidate will have a strong understanding and experience of working with students who require British Sign Language support, across “upper school”,
The ideal candidate will be willing and enthusiastic about making a difference to these children's lives and their education.
Responsibilities
Support students in their learning and development using BSL.
Assist the class teacher in adhering to individuals EHCPS (Education Health Care Plans)
Promoting the social and emotional well-being of students.
Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback to the teaching staff.
Collaborate with other professionals, including therapists and educational psychologists, to enhance student learning experiences.
Requirements
Level 2 or above in British Sign Language
Strong Communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
Patience and Empathy to support students
Previous experience or a specialism in working with Complex Communication Needs and Autism
Valid DBS or willing to obtain one

Rate of pay is dependent on current grade, experience and payroll method.
