Purpose of the role:
The successful candidate will help to increase our digital maturity by modernising, automating, and digitising our systems/processes and rolling out new digital opportunities for staff, volunteers and service users. Additionally, you will provide wider support to the Senior Management Team and help the organisation develop a suitable IT infrastructure for the future.
Background:
Connecting Carers aim is to ensure unpaid Carers in Highland are not caring alone, are acknowledged, supported and have access to the right services and information they need to enable them to carry out their caring role.
Connecting Carers have been instrumental in supporting unpaid Carers across Highland for over 30 years. We are the only service solely dedicated to Carers wellbeing, powered by invaluable input from our community. We are committed to raising awareness of the rights of unpaid Carers through our services by supporting all aspects of the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016. We are commissioned to provide information, advice, and guidance on behalf of NHS Highland and Highland Council.
In addition, we offer support to Adult and Young Carers through Wellbeing Activity, Counselling, Training and Events, Short Breaks and additional peer support groups and social activities.
The organisation is core funded by NHS Highland to support unpaid Carers 18+ and the Highland Council to support unpaid Carers aged 5-18 years. The organisation is in receipt of grant funding from the Big Lottery, Improving Lives and Young Start grants, Children in Need, the William Grant Foundation, The Robertson Trust and others.
Key responsibilities – What you’ll do:
Main tasks
Investigate key business processes and activities:
• Learn about our current systems and processes. Where are the weaknesses and what are the solutions
• Co-design a work plan in partnership with the Senior Management Team
• Identify efficiencies and digital opportunities
• Create a report for the Senior Management Team with recommendations to improve digital processes
Support staff, volunteers, and service users:
• Arrange training and trials with new systems and technology
• Deliver trials relating to creating an Adult Carer Support Plan and completing funding applications online
• Upskill staff, volunteers and service users with digital technology
• Create a handbook to be used as a training resource for staff and others
Support small business growth:
• Support new digitised processes into Connecting Carers, increasing efficiency and service
• Review and research how other Carer Centres best use digital resources and for what benefits
• To complete a comprehensive online information resource to enable more Carers to access the services of the organisation
Other
• Maintain own professional expertise, including attending training and CPD, with management support and guidance through regular one to ones
• Attend staff meetings, team huddles and other similar staff events
• Undertake own computer work, both in the production of correspondence and documents, data recording, emailing and research
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as agreed with the line manager

Eligibility
This Graduate role has been funded by Highland & Islands Enterprise (HIE) with the following conditions attached:
• You must be based in the Highlands & Islands or willing to relocate
• A maximum of 1 year of experience in another graduate level scheme
• You must have graduated to at least HNC level in any subject within the last four years and be able to provide evidence of this

Essential
• Excellent verbal communications skills and ability to create reports and written pieces of work for a variety of audiences
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Passion, interest and/or experience with supporting local communities
• Experience and knowledge of digital technology preferably including Microsoft 365, Access, Apps, A.I and automation of processes
• Ability to provide training for others in ICT tools and the digital processes developed
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn
• Ability to work effectively within a busy environment, prioritise workload and manage conflicting requirements and meet deadlines
