Our dedicated team at Blue Cross Grimsby Animal Hospital has been serving the local community 24/7 for over 40 years, treating thousands of sick and injured pets annually. As a Veterinary Surgeon, Clinical Lead, you will play a pivotal role in managing our busy hospital caseloads. You'll supervise specific clinical areas, ensuring the smooth operation of our services. With your advanced knowledge in one or more clinical specialties, you'll take ownership of complex cases, providing expert advice and support to your colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the workload in clinical areas such as theatres, clinics, inpatients, or wards to ensure efficient use of resources.
* Deliver high quality first opinion small animal care, including consultations, diagnostics, surgery, inpatient care, emergency, and critical care.
* Handle complex clinical cases, adhering to Blue Cross Clinical Guidelines.
* Mentor and support newly qualified veterinary graduates through our Vet GDP program, setting clear development goals and conducting regular assessments learning environment.
* Lead small groups in implementing improved ways of working and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines.
* Ensure excellent client care, including managing challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
* Perform first opinion small animal care, including consultations, diagnostics, surgery, and inpatient care.
This role involves participating in a locally agreed rota that includes out-of-hours shifts, such as weekends and bank holidays. We understand that this may not suit everyone, so we’re committed to offering flexibility where possible and provide equivalent time off in lieu. About You
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Surgeon who thrives in a team environment. With your advanced clinical skills and leadership qualities, you will be a role model and mentor to others. You will be practical, pragmatic, and committed to delivering excellent care to both patients and their owners.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
* Member of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
* Demonstrable small animal or mixed practice experience
* Sole charge experience
* Proven experience in mentoring or coaching veterinary professionals
* Understanding of the Veterinary Graduate Development Programme (Vet GDP) and its requirements
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively support and inspire new graduates
* Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our Blue Cross values
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
* Post-graduate qualification or demonstrable advanced competency (e.g., RCVS Advanced Practitioner level).
