Job Overview
This post is a Fixed Term/Secondment for 11 months to meet the needs of the service.
An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our antimicrobial stewardship team and work in the fight to prevent antimicrobial resistance! We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacist to join our team, working alongside the Consultant Microbiologists and Infection Prevention and Control team. This is an exciting chance to contribute to the work currently being undertaken to optimise the use of antimicrobials within the Health Board and deliver Welsh Government antimicrobial prescribing targets.
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient treatment outcomes by developing and implementing antimicrobial policies, guidelines, quality interventions, and delivering antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds.
The position will equip the post holder with specialist knowledge and expertise in the field of infection management, as well as many transferable skills including medicines governance, behavioural change, and influencing others.
The post holder would be based at the Grange University and Nevill Hall hospitals. Flexible working will be considered to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice regarding the prescribing and use of antimicrobials to pharmacists, medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
2. Regular attendance at antimicrobial ward rounds with the microbiology consultants.
3. Training multi-disciplinary team members in the appropriate use of antimicrobials.
4. Develop and implement guidelines and quality improvement projects ensuring the safe and cost-effective use of antimicrobials.
5. Working towards the Health Board’s antimicrobial stewardship strategy.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
